On Saturday, May 1, the Colorado GBS/CIDP Support Group held its annual spring meeting at St. Anthony’s Central hospital. After introductions and background stories the group discussed the following topics: how frequently we should have meetings; the nature of the meetings; ways in which members can help facilitate the meetings; and outreach to current GBS/CIDP patients and their families.  There seemed to be a general consensus among those in attendance that we continue with 4 meetings per year.  The group felt that it would be a good time to ask the greater Colorado and regional group their opinions regarding the topics of support group meeting frequency and volunteering. As such, we developed a survey that has been sent out on the listserve and is also available for download here.

Dr. Stambuk gave us an excellent presentation that included a very informative introduction as to what exactly is GBS and CIDP followed by how the body is affected by these diseases, current standard treatments, and finally trends in future research. Dr. Stambuk openly and honestly answered any and all questions that were posed by members of the audience.  A copy of Dr. Stambuk's presentation is available by request just by sending an email to this site's webmaster (Check the "Related Links" page). Coffee and tea was provided by the hospital and one of our members brought a special cake to commemorate the event. A small photo album can be found on the Photo Album page.

The early Spring Colorado GBS/CIDP group meeting was held at in Auditorium A at St. Anthony Central hospital. About 32 people joined for good discussion and lots of refreshments. Suzanne Hakar, the General Manager at Neurological Consultants attended and told the group what the organization does and announced that Dr. Mik K. Stambuk will be our speaker for the May 2 state meeting (see above). Suzanne fielded questions from the group that they would like to see answered at the May meeting.

Our group tried a new discussion format for this meeting: The attendees were broken into small groups of 3 or 4, talked for about 30 minutes, and then shared what they talked about with the group. Attendee feedback indicated that people liked the format.

Ann announced that the Foundation cannot afford to finance our 3 page newsletter printing and mailing costs. Since the Foundation has already sent the labels (thank you), the next newsletter will be distributed by snail mail. However, one our members is organizing an email list by which future announcements and newsletters will be distributed to those who are email-viable and snail-mailed to those who prefer otherwise.  Donations to cover those mailings will be greatly appreciated. The group email address is "GBS-CIDP@comcast.net". A link to this address can be found on the "Related Links" page on the left.
